Heads up if you're traveling via Hauptbahnhof—the alcohol ban has been extended until 2028. Deutsche Bahn is also rolling out a new rule next week: cannabis is also off the guest list at stations nationwide. Keep an eye out for those info posters.

3 bits of news

Escape to the Alps - no car needed

Starting Saturday, May 18, you can swap city streets for mountain peaks without the hassle of driving.

The Munich BergBus (we're talking two dedicated bus lines) is back this season, whisking you from Munich to those hard-to-reach hiking spots every Saturday and Sunday. Plus, they're part of the MVV network, meaning any MVV ticket will get you there, including the Deutschland ticket.

Though hopping on in Pasing or Ostbahnhof is easy, seats fill up fast! While you don't need to book in advance, a quick seat reservation via the MVV-App is a smart move to avoid standing room only. Check out the MVV website for all the maps and stops.

For more information read here.

Munich’s newest daycare

Image source + credits Kéré Architecture

A brand new daycare is coming to town. Designed by none other than architect Francis Kéré, a Pritzker Prize laureate, its doors are set to open in 2025. The Ingeborg Pohl Kinderoase an der TUM promises a blend of innovation and childcare right in the heart of our city.

Located at Gabelsbergerstraße 41, the facility will offer 60 precious slots to the children of TUM staff or students. Imagine dropping your kiddos off in a building that's as nurturing as it is striking—with a façade that changes hues and a rooftop play area dubbed Heaven's Meadow.

Head over to the official TUM website or catch a sneak peek on München TV for a video that brings Kéré’s vision to life.

Your all-access pass to Munich’s Rathaus

Save the date: Munich is flinging open the doors of its Town Hall (the Gothic Rathaus) to the general public on Saturday, May 11. From 10am to 4pm, you are invited to dive into the nerve center of our city's governance.

Ever wondered what the Burgermeister’s office looks like? Or where the city council strategizes? This open house isn’t just a peek into political offices; it’s a full-blown tour of Munich’s civic pride. From the Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter’s workspace to the historic treasures like the Golden Book and the breathtaking Art Nouveau Legal Library.

Highlights you can’t miss

  • The Mayor’s Balcony: Also known as the Meisterbalkon, where champions are celebrated.

  • The Rathausgalerie Exhibition: Catch a special exhibition right in the heart of the town hall.

  • The Town Hall Tower View: For a panoramic vista of Munich that will leave you spellbound.

It’s a unique opportunity to connect with your city on a personal level and maybe even bump into some of our local leaders.
