How to start a business in Germany after your graduation as an expat

Full disclosure: This is not news but I think it would be useful to many expats here. Many folks come to me for this exact question.

Here’s the TL;DR version of this:

• If you are an expat, you need to go to KVR and apply as “self employed”

• You need to submit a business plan to IHK

• You need to go to a Notar for incorporation

• And you need a company bank to show the capital invested in your notarized documents

• Then you need to pay for Handelsregister and apply for a Tax Number from Finanzamt

3 new megastores in Munich

The largest Lego store in Germany is opening at Kaufinger Tor on Thursday, September 29, at 10 a.m. (Kaufingerstraße 9). H&M is going to have 4500 sqm at Kaufingerstraße 22 and will close the rest of the shops and merge into one.

Lastly, there will be a mega showroom for electric cars from Fisker Ocean. It will be advertised as:“Designed in California. Made in Austria."

Inflation is coming after students now

Our beloved student Isarcard will be 302€/semester from summer 2023. There was a plan to introduce a 365€ ticket for the entire year for students - such as already available for pupils and trainees - but it won't be happening until 2025.

Not only will semester tickets increase but rent prices will go up, too. On average, rents for student apartments are 5.9 percent higher than the previous year, according to the 2022 Student Housing Report. And Munich has the highest rent from the 38 cities that were surveyed.

2 upcoming events

Wanna experience the old Wiesn feeling?

You definitely need to visit “Die Oide Wiesn” because it’s less stress and more nostalgia. As a well-liked addition to the Oktoberfest, the Oide Wiesn was initially intended to be a one-time occurrence, but today it is difficult to envision the Munich Oktoberfest without it.

The Oide Wiesn was first intended as a special event to commemorate Oktoberfest's 200th anniversary. Its purpose was to provide festival goers with historical context and a glimpse into the inaugural Oktoberfest with vintage amusements, a museum tent, and comfortable beer tents. The Oide Wiesn was so well received that it stayed and eventually became a beloved component of the biggest folk festival on earth.

A quick look at the Oide Wiesn pricing:

• Adult admission costs 3€ (free from 9 p.m. onwards)

• Children under the age of 14 and those with severe disabilities who are 50 percent or more disabled (with a valid severely disabled ID) are admitted free.

• All rides cost 1€

Don’t worry, I also have something besides Wiesn for you - The Munich Outdoor Sports Festival. Normally you would pay on average 15€ per activity but these are FREE events.

Botanista Café Club

The Botanista Café Club is perfect for Sunday breakfast with a wide variety of dishes: Greek scrambled eggs and the Pink surfer eggs are highly recommended.
