Servus an Alle!

Welcome back to the Munich Post! The purpose of this newsletter is to share: 3 bits of news, 2 upcoming events, and 1 amazing restaurant/café for expats living in and around Munich. This way, you have a pulse on what’s going on without scrolling through thousands of pages.

Heads up – Monday is a holiday, so stock up on groceries by Saturday.

It would make our day if you forward this newsletter to those who might benefit from it:

3 bits of news

Minimum wage raised to 12€ for everyone

Approximately 11% of the Munich population currently earn an hourly rate of 10.45€ but starting in October, these workers will begin making 12€/hour.

In total, 2.5 million people in Germany who work full-time will benefit from the new minimum wage, as well as 1.8 million part-time employees and more than 2 million people in mini-jobs.

The trade unions are also discussing whether the 12€ are sufficient to cover the cost of living in expensive Munich. The trade unions say 15€ would be desirable. I hope they can negotiate that.

Question for you: Do you think 15€ would be a sufficient hourly rate for Munich if that happens?

Wiesn-Kehraus 2022: The firecracker finale at the Oktoberfest

Source: Muenchen.de

Perhaps you are still in the mood for Oktoberfest? If so, then you can say goodbye to this year’s party with some incredible firecrackers.

When? On the last day of the Wiesn: Monday October 3, at 12 noon.

Who? 60 Bavarian riflemen will give a gun salute and say Aufwierdersehen to this year’s Oktoberfest.

Where? On the Theresienwiese! (We’ll be on the stairs of the Bavaria statue, watching.)

And what else do you need to know? This traditional firecracker send-off, also honors the winning marksmen from the 2022 Oktoberfest Bavarian shooting competition. So it’s got to be good!
